Striving for remarkable. Getting better every day. Always doing more. These are all mottos of the best employees, the actively engaged employees, the successful employees. What’s the opposite of this? A Bottom Feeder.
A Bottom Feeder is typically in the wrong job or career and tends to have a poor work ethic. He is the person who always comes up with the next excuse. He always has a reason why not. He consistently seeks out the lowest level of performance required in order not to be fired and plays the blame game like a pro.
You might be a Bottom Feeder if…
- You didn’t realize crocs or sandals weren’t part of business casual since the policy didn’t specifically say they weren’t allowed.
- You know the latest gossip about your coworkers.
- You criticize your manager and leadership.
- You focus on the minimum amount of activity needed to get by.
- You consistently come to work with a poor attitude.
- You bring your social media life into your so-called work life
- You don’t see anything wrong with excessive personal texting and calls while at work.
- You love the phrases “I’m owed this”; “I deserve this”; “I have a right to this”; when speaking of your organization.
If any of these describes you, then take a few seconds to re-read the first few sentences of this post. It’s all in your control.
